Blue Impact is developing a technology for chemical-free dispersion of oil spills. The technology utilizes water under high pressure to mechanically disperse oil into microscopic droplets. Equinor Mongstad is facilitating three main companies Mongstad Refining, Mongstad Terminal DA and Vestprocess DA. Annually about 1500 ships are handled and 28 million tonnes are shipped over the port. All ranges of tankers from VLCC to small coast steamers, LPG ship’s and dry bulk carriers are visiting Equinor Mongstad. Equinor Mongstad is one of the largest oil and gas ports in Europa. Equinor Mongstad are connected to several oil fields in the North Sea, and the feedstock are brought to Mongstad via submerged pipeline in from the ocean via the Fensfjord.
All municipalities in Norway are obliged by law to participate in inter-municipal committees against acute pollution (oil and chemical spills), abbreviated to IUA. The emergency preparedness in the municipalites is based on relevant incidents that may occure, and which are not covered by private emergencye preparedness. In the event of minor incidents, the municipality shall implement measures on its own. IUA is mobilized when the incident is to large and/or complex to be handled by a single municipality. IUA Bergen region is covering the municipalities Alver, Askøy, Austevoll, Austrheim, Bergen, Bjørnafjorden, Eidfjord, Fedje, Gulen, Hyllestad, Kvam, Masfjorden, Modalen, Osterøy, Samnanger, Solund, Ulvik, Vaksdal, Voss and Øygarden. NOFO establishes and maintains oil spill preparedness on the Norwegian Continental Shelf in order to combat oil pollution on behalf of 30 operating oil companies.

NOFO is a dedicated, non-profit 24h / 7d a week, oil spill response organization with total recovery capacity of 200.000 bbl / d.
The Norwegian Centre against Marine Litter is a government agency under the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment. Our primary objective is to ensure cleaner seas through the reduction of marine litter.
Hammerfest LNG is the first large scale LNG-facility in Europe. Every fourth day’s a ship loaded with LNG from Hammerfest and calling at ports in the world. In addition to LNG, we are producing condensate and LPG at the factory. These two products are loaded on ships about every three weeks.
Hammerfest LNG has added to correct for small scale LNG, LNG is loaded on board the trucks that transports the liquid gas to industrial companies who use it as an energy source and to the ships that use it as fuel.
The Sture terminal near Bergen in western Norway is an important export port for crude oil. The terminal receives crude and condensate from the Oseberg area and the Grane area in the North Sea through pipelines.
The Sture facility comprises two jetties able to berth tankers up to 300,000 deadweight tonnes, plus five artificial rock caverns for crude with a total capacity of one million cubic metres.
The Norwegian Fire School is the national educational institution within fire-fighting, rescue and oil spill response. We cover a wide range of education and training in operations and emergency preparedness, prevention, and oil spill preparedness.
